Former player Ian Rush will be filmed returning to the football club later this month as part of a grassroots promotional video.

Rush will be filmed as he returns to Hawarden Rangers to re-live his experiences as a Rangers player, look around the club, meet current teams and then take part in a Q&A session.

The ex-Liverpool and Wales striker, who was born in Flint, played for Hawarden from the age of 15.

Ian scored 32 goals in 19 games for the club's Youth team - the same team that boasted a squad list consisting of Barry Horne, another former Wales international, and ex-Chester City duo Ian Edwards and David Brett.

Rush, McDonald's Head of Welsh Football, is being filmed as part of a promotional video which hopes to raise awareness of 'The Grassroots Awards'.

The Grassroots Awards look to recognise and reward clubs and individuals who make a difference to grassroots football in the local community. There is a regional nomination process followed by a national awards ceremony which takes place later this year.

Meanwhile, the club are on the lookout for members of the Youth team that Ian played for in his time as a Rangers player. Should you have played in the same team as Ian, please contact Gary Owen via 01244 812040.

Pictured below is Ian and the Hawarden Rangers Youth team at one of their presentation evenings. The team had won three honours that year.
